Some history: The kettlebell, or girya (Russian: гиря) is a traditional Russian cast iron weight which resemebles a cannonball with a handle. The kettlebell training has become more popular in recent year, largely to the efforts of strength and flexibility coach Pavel Tsatsouline, and also to some extent to the aggressive marketing tactics of many kettlebell companies on the internet. Because kettlebells are reletively cheap to manufacture, many companies produce their own brands of kettlebells which come with kettlebell exercise programs.
