The 'Alternative' Way - Crystal Healing

Crystal healing is a form of alternative medicine that has recently become more popular in western society. Although there is no scientific evidence for its effectiveness, many people utilise crystals during meditation to aid relaxation and healing. Practitioners of crystal healing believe that there is power in the crystals that aid healing. Practitioners of this alternative medicine can use them as a form of self-healing. Crystal healers use theCrystal healing is a form of alternative medicine that is becoming more "energy" within crystals, to help improve energy flow through the chakras and along the meridians. By using the appropriate crystals one can tune an energy system or rebalance energies, thus improving well-being, health, vitality and mental wellbeing.

The earliest records of crystal healing come from ancient Egypt. The Ebers papyrus states the medicinal uses of many different gems. Healing with crystals is also recorded in India's Ayurvedic records and in traditional Chinese medicine from around five thousand years ago. It is still practiced throughout the Far East to help improve health and even to boost spirit and power in martial arts.

Crystal healers claim that every living organism has a "vibrational energy system," which includes chakras, subtle bodies and meridians. By using the appropriate crystals one can allegedly "tune" an energy system or rebalance energies, thus improving well-being.

One method of crystal healing is through meditation. This method allows self healing. To meditate, sit or lie quietly, close your eyes and relax. Breath gently but naturally. Concentrate on the point of balance in your body, your centre of gravity. Locate this point in your abdomen - this is your tan tien. Keep quite still and be aware of all the forces of gravity that are held in balance. Become like a rock, immovable and strong. Picture this rock and imagine that it contains the source of all your strength, your physical, mental and spiritual. Meditate on the inner expreience of strength which you contain and which is now symbolised by this rock. Meditate on inner strength. The image of the rock is one which you can call on at any time when you need to remind yourself of your strength, or when you need support. In the stillness of meditation you can find your inner strength.
